Think About It Thursdays #16....Are you a faker?

First.

Happy Birthday to my Mom today!! I LOVE YOU!!

************

Thoroughly enjoyed every ones comments from last weeks how honest do you want your friends question.

Here are some for YOUR enjoyment.

I'd only want them to be honest when I asked for it. Otherwise... lie to me, I promise I'll believe it.

Is that sad or what? I just don't think that because someone sees you a certain way it means that is who or what you really are... Like I see myself as a five foot nine inch, tan, blonde, skinny super model with the brains of a Harvard grad and the humor of George Carlin.. and well MAYBE sometimes I might not quite be that.. MAYBE! What do you think? No don't tell me. Alright, tell me but LIE.

Girl, your SO five nine and all that and a bag of chips. :)

Probably, "Eff you, now give me a hug."

Martha....CLASSIC answer. LOVE it!

Well we all know that I am freakin' perfection on two legs so I have nothing to fear except strangers gawking at my cuteness...back off people..

As for my BabyMama, she ONLY wants to be told what she wants to hear. Brutal honesty is what you share with God, everyone else gets a "colored" version. That's what makes the world a happy place.

"colored" version works for me Blogbaby!

I don't have any friends, and all my acquaintances think I'm a bitch....so, No. Absolutely not.
Ignorance is bliss.

Oh Sher...how I love thee.

This weeks question....

Do you frequently find yourself -just to be polite- saying things you don't mean?

For example....when you say goodbye to someone that doesn't interest you, do you act as though you enjoyed their company?

Ugh, yes!! And, I have one hell of a 'fake nice' going on most of the time. But, seriously, IRL, I'd probably lose half of my long time friends if they really knew what my cynical little cold-hearted self was thinking .... but hey, what's that matter? I'm a good friend, I'd always watch their kids, and help them move. What else matters, right?

Mrs. M said...

Totally! And I probably do it a lot more than I think I do which means I do it A LOT! ;-)

I'm not too bad, usually quite honest, but I sometimes chicken out if the person is over-sensitive!

Kathy B! said...

I try to be honest without being brutal. If I don't like you or the conversation I'll be polite but not enthusiastic... otherwise I'd be leaving a comment like the one from Sherendipity in your post :)

That was a hoot, btw.

I can honestly say that I don't say things I don't mean. I'm one of those, "if you don't have anything nice to say then say nothing at all" types. So, if I'm amongst friends and a bunch of people are complimenting someone on their outfit and I think it sucks then I just stand there and smile.

said...

Good question.

I thought about it and it seems that I don't really do that - say things that I don't mean out of politeness. Score!! LOL ;o)

OliveStreetStudio said...

HECK YEAH!! But I find I'm much more honest with the people closest to me - i.e. hubby, sister, parents - probably bc we're family and they are stuck with me. :-) That being said, they are honest right back.

M said...

ALL the time!! I'm so bad about that.

I can't stop though. I can not be mean to someone or hurt their feelings.

Me and everyone else around here. Down here in south Louisiana, we kiss everyone on the cheek when greeting or leaving. Yeah, took some getting used to. Lot's of "what the eff are you doing?!" looks when I first moved here.
It's all fake and for show.
I pretend to care/like/show interest in my mother in law when I actually can't stand the biotch.

I try to be polite even when the person is a boring moron, doesn't cost me anything. Luckily it isn't too frequently or I would be a kiss a$$.

Furry Bottoms said...

Oh yes. Definitely yes. That is the price for wanting to be NICE. If I am close to somebody, I would be more truthful because I would know exactly how to word it... but a lady at work, just yesterday... strolled in on high, high heels in big baggy jeans. Secretly I hoped she'd trip and fall, but when she asked people what we thought of her outfit... somebody said with effort "oh its cute... mm.. yeah.. cute..." and I just stood there smiling like an idiot. I was not about to say you look like a freaking freak! I have to work with her otherwise, LOL!

Julie said...

Good question. I definitely do that...am polite when I don't really feel like it. Mostly because I don't want other people to feel uncomfortable or anything like that.
Unless they were a total jerk, then screw it.

I forgot, Happy Birthday to your Mom, the Newlywed! Also, thank her for making you and Antibloggedy!
I'm finally getting off my tush to add your button, cause yeah I wanna. See? Aren't I the image of politeness?

I'm not a big faker around people I don't like, but I will keep my thoughts to myself around my friends to avoid conflict.

I secretly have very strong feelings on parentings issues, but I do think everyone should get to decision for themselves how to parent - so I pretty much just keep my mouth shut when the touchy topics arise.

I have 12 employees, so I'm basically a big phony from 9-6.
One of them is a huge hypochondriac, and I have to listen and pretend that I care.
See, I told you my acquaintances think I'm a bitch!

Controlling My Chaos said...

Yes, totally. Like when you see someone and you, in your most chipper voice, ask "How are you?!" And then they start to tell you and you're like Oh, crap, I really don't care. But I would never say it, I just listen and wait, and nod in all the right places, while my stomach churns and I think about everything else I SHOULD be doing right then. Yeah, I do that.

Fiauna said...

I like to consider myself a pretty genuine person, but there definitely are times when I say things I don't really mean just to be polite. If I can get away with it, I just don't say anything at all. But there are always *those* times. You know what I mean?

I'm stuck at a desk all day long where I am required to be helpful and friendly to college students. There are a few that seem to think this means they can talk to me as long as they want about whatever they want. Half the time, I only pretend I'm listening because I don't want to be rude and tell them to go away.

Is that wrong?

Kalei said...

ALL THE TIME (me shouting). Like when I "run" into someone in the grocery store, then you find yourself saying goodbye only to follow them on the same path to the next food item, then you continue talking saying goodbye, finally someone cuts it short to go to the veggies, even though they have the veggies, just to get away, and say "Oh, I have to go this way,(in a sulken sort of way)" and "It was REALLY great seeing you"(in a really excited happy way)....then you end up in the check out together....."yikes!"

Too funny. I've been known to turn on my "PR" voice from time to time. Shh... don't tell, it'll ruin my reputation.
